Just a bump in the road

Well, I debated on whether I should post this or not, but, hey, I can always use the prayers and I figured that's what friends & family are for. :) Some of you already know so I wouldn't waste your time! :) For those of you who don't, I'll fill you in. We had an eventful week last week...Tuesday morning I came down with horrible stomach pains. My mom had had a stomach bug on Sunday, so I thought "here we go". Fortunately I had a baby-sitter at the house because I was supposed to go to a PTA meeting at Hannah's school. I obviously wasn't going to make that so I let the school know and called Morgan's mom to come pick her up. Thank God they were here because I was miserable. I called Jason and my mom to come over because I literally couldn't get off the floor. I even debated calling 911, that's how bad it was. I felt like I wanted to pass out! SO, when Jason got here, Morgan and her mom left, my mom stayed with the girls, and we were off to the ER. After 6 long hours in the ER, an x-ray, CAT scan and blood work, I was told I had an infection in my colon, which is a fancy way of saying a stomach bug, like I figured. Who knew?? They also informed me of a spot they found on my kidney and recommended following up with my Dr. to have it checked out. Well, Wednesday I got a call from my Dr. and she said we definitely needed to have it looked at, that hopefully it was something I've had all my life. Thursday she called back and informed me that this spot is definitely a tumor and it needs to be removed. She scheduled an appointment for me to see the Urologist Friday at 2. We happen to know this Urologist because Jason saw him a few months ago for his vasectomy! LOL Well, a little later the Urologist called to let me know what the plan was. They would remove the tumor and I'd be left with two healthy kidneys and be fine. They don't biopsy cancerous kidneys because they are full of veins and bleed too much when poked with a needle. So I said, "did you say cancer???" He said, "Yes, it's cancer." OMG!! I'm only 31 years old and I have cancer. That was a lot to swallow!!!! So we went to our appt. Friday and got our questions answered. We are still in shock that I have cancer but know that the Lord is on our side and we will get through this. It is such a miracle that this was found! Things would be much different if this had been found later down the road. It is in very early stages and has not spread. They are going to remove the entire left kidney because of the location of the tumor. I will not require any chemo or radiation and should have a clean bill of health once it is removed. Yeah!! We still do not know why the CAT scan was ordered at the hospital, only that God was looking out for me. The 6 long hours that we spent in the ER didn't seem so bad anymore!! We are so thankful the way that this played out and know that it could be much worse. We are very blessed!! The surgery will be the 13th of October and I will be in the hospital about 3 days. My recovery will be 2-3 weeks and maybe 6 to feel completely back to normal. I'm not looking forward to that at all, especially with the girls. I was really hoping it would be simple and a quick recovery, but no such luck. So, please keep us in your prayers. Like I said, it's just a bump in the road and we know that God will be with us every step of the way. I'll definitely keep you posted through the process. Hope you have a blessed week!!
